A total of US$160,000 will be awarded to young African entrepreneurs who have launched scalable, impact-driven businesses in the agrifood sector. This is an incredible opportunity to gain exposure, mentorship, and financial support to scale your venture.

Who Can Apply? 

The Entrepreneur

  • Entrepreneur is aged 35 or below on the last date of submission to the competition, and is legally recognised as an adult in country of nationality
  • Entrepreneur holds nationality (with an official ID) from a country which is a member of the African Union
  • Entrepreneur is the founder/co-founder of the venture he/she represents in the competition and plays an active role in its operations and leadership
  • Entrepreneur has no criminal record related to corruption, tax evasion, financial impropriety, felony, or other offence, and will provide a signed declaration to that effect, if requested

    The Venture

    • Venture is already legally registered in a country which is a member of the African Union or will have commenced with the registration of such a legal entity prior to 10 June 2025
    • Venture is headquartered in a country which is a member of the African Union
    • Venture is designed to be financially sustainable, either as a for-profit business or a non-profit generating some revenue and aiming not to be dependent on donor funding
    • Venture plays a role in the agrifood sector and/or supports the development of the agrifood sector through an innovation or process improvement
    • The agrifood sector may be defined as businesses engaged in:
      • Agrifood research & development
      • Primary food production (farming)
      • Crop nutrition
      • Irrigation
      • Mechanisation, automation or robotics, including drones
      • Crop protection
      • Hydroponics or urban farming
      • Transport, distribution, storage or logistics
      • Food processing
      • Packaging or marketing
      • Food retail or service
      • Waste management or recycling
      • Digital or technology solutions/services to the agrifood sector

    Competition Timeline

    The 2025 GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition opens for entries in April 2025 and culminates in live on-stage pitches and an award ceremony at the GoGettaz Finals at the AFS Summit, in Dakar, Senegal in September.

    The top GoGettaz agripreneurs will get flights, accommodation, and visas for their trip to pitch their businesses at the GoGettaz Finals at the Africa Food Systems Forum Summit. The 2025 AFSF Summit will be held in Dakar, Senegal, in September.

    At the summit, Africa’s biggest match-making platform, the AFSF Agribusiness Dealroom is a golden opportunity for GoGettaz Finalists to meet future investors, partners, and collaborators.

    Top contestants will also have the opportunity to apply for the exclusive 6-month GoGettaz Africa Leadership Program, designed to empower emerging leaders with the skills and network necessary to grow themselves and their businesses.

    Selected entrepreneurs will benefit from personalised support, engaging in individual coaching, peer-to-peer sessions, and workshops led by thought leaders, fostering continuous growth and development even after the competition concludes.

    Who is GoGettaz?

    GoGettaz is a non-profit organisation and the organizer of the Agripreneur Prize Competition. The organisations aim is to support innovative agrifood ventures in Africa. The partners and sponsors of the 2025 GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition are Yara International, Econet Group, Africa Food Systems Forum (AFSF), Alliance for a Green Revolution Africa (AGRA) , The Southern African Confederation of African Unions (SACAU), and SNV Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV).

    Who is VC4A?

    Venture Capital 4 Africa (VC4A) is a technical partner. They host the GoGettaz Community and maintain the application process for the annual GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition. Applications are submitted via VC4A.

    Is there a fee to enter the GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition?

    No, there is no fee to enter the competition. Participation is free of charge. GoGettaz or their partners will never ask you to pay to progress to a next round. If anyone contacts you to request payments, please report it immediately at info@gogettaz.africa.

    Can I apply if I do not speak English or French?

    Currently, only English and French are supported. Successful applicants who make it to the finals must be able to present their business and answer questions in either English or French. As GoGettaz grows into the future, we hope to add more regional competitions with regional language support.

    What language do I have to pitch in if I make it to the GoGettaz finals?

    You can pitch your business in English or French. We have some judges who are native English speakers and some judges who are native French speakers.

    Can I apply if I live outside of the African continent?

    Yes, but you must a citizen of one of the member states of the African Union to be eligible to participate in the competition. You must also have a business that is registered and operating in one of the member states of the African Union.

    Where will the GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Finals take place?

    The finals of the GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize will be held at the AFSF Summit, which is planned to take place in Dakar, Senegal. The summit is traditionally during the first week of September every year.

    Do I have to pay for my own travel if I make it to the finals?

    Finalists are required to ensure they have all necessary valid travel documentation at their own cost. However, costs relating to travel and, where applicable, visa costs to attend the AFSF Summit may be covered by GoGettaz, subject to funding availability.

    Can previous winners or finalists of GoGettaz competitions participate again?

    No, previous winners and finalists of GoGettaz competitions, including those run by partner organizations like AGRA, are not eligible to participate again.

    What is the age limit to participate in the competition?

    Applicants must be 18 to 35 years of age on the last day of submission to the competition. If you are 35 years old on 10 June 2025, you are allowed to compete.

    How many entries can I submit?

    Each applicant is limited to one entry or application.

    How are the finalists selected?

    A jury selected by GoGettaz and its partners will review entries and select semi-finalists, and then 12 finalists will be chosen from among the semi-finalists.

    What happens if I decline to participate as a semi-finalist or finalist?

    If you are shortlisted in any of the rounds and decline to participate in that round, your competition entry will be withdrawn, and you will be out of the competition for the year.

    What do winners receive?

    There will be two grand prize winners, each receiving a sum of US$50,000 subject to applicable taxes and banking charges.

    Are there any conditions attached to the prize money?

    Yes, the prize money will be paid in two equal instalments, each requiring a written report on how the prize money has been spent and the impact on the venture.

    Can I disclose my confidential business information in the application?

    No, you’re strongly advised not to disclose any confidential, proprietary, or competitive information in your application.

    What happens to my personal information provided during the application process?

    Information you submit in the competition may be used to promote you and your business on GoGettaz Social Media Channels. Additionally, your personal information may be used for administration purposes and may be disclosed to partners. By entering the competition, you consent to the collection, retention, usage, and distribution of your personal information as described in the privacy policy.

    Can I apply if my business is not yet registered?

    To compete, you must have a registered business before the application deadline of 10 June 2025. You may submit an application before your business is registered, but keep in mind that the registration process must be complete before the application deadline.

    What kind of ventures are eligible for the competition?

    Any agriculture or food related business, or business providing services to the agriculture and food sector is eligible. GoGettaz support innovation throughout the entire value-chain. This includes various areas such as research and development, primary production, food processing, logistics, technology solutions, and more.

    Can I submit my application after the deadline?

    Unfortunately, late submissions will not be accepted. All applications must be submitted by the 10 June 2025 deadline to be considered.

    What happens if I'm selected as a semi-finalist?

    If you’re selected as a semi-finalist, you’ll be required to participate in an online interview and provide documentation regarding your venture as determined by the jury.

    Is there any assistance available for preparing the application?

    Applicants who have questions about their application can join the GoGettaz Application Support Group on WhatsApp. While the GoGettaz Team cannot help individual applicants to fill in their applications, they will assist in clarifying questions and connect applicants to competition-related information that answers their queries. Further resources and guidelines may be available on the GoGettaz website, on social media, or through partner organizations to help applicants with their submissions.

    What criteria are used to evaluate applications?

    Applications are evaluated based on various criteria including innovation, impact potential, scalability, financial sustainability, and the ability to contribute to the development of the agri-food sector in Africa. The judges will also be looking to award ventures that make a significant impact in one or more of the following areas: rural livelihoods, nutrition, climate, technology, gender, natural resources, and job creation.

    Can I withdraw or edit my application after submission?

    Once an application is submitted, it cannot be withdrawn or edited. Make sure to review and finalize your application before submitting it. You may at any stage choose to stop participating in the competition.

    Are there any restrictions on how the prize money can be used?

    The prize money is intended to support the development and growth of the winning ventures. As per the terms and conditions of the competition, the prize money is to be used to grow and scale your business. Specific reporting requirements may apply to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of the funds.

    What support is available to finalists beyond the prize money?

    Finalists enjoy facilitated participation in the AFSF Agribusiness Deal Room, Africa’s biggest agribusiness matchmaking platform. Finalists may receive additional support such as mentorship, networking opportunities, access to resources, and exposure to potential investors or partners to further advance their ventures.
