In 2016, I almost died from acute anaemia. Many people including pregnant women are dying on a daily basis because of anaemia. Globally, WHO declared about 1.62 billion people in the world anaemic. Out of this, 570 million are from Africa. In my country Ghana, nearly 10 million people are anaemic. Iron deficiency anemia is the common cause of anemia in the world. Out of this pregnant women, women of reproductive age (15-49yrs) and children are the majority that make up these figures. Some older women and men (50yrs and above) are also included. After my experience, we conducted a 2-year research into the turkey berry plant to identify the compounds responsible for its therapeutic properties. From our findings and analysis so far, we have identified a wide range of nutrients including dietary iron, vitamins that can promote health in many ways. Today, we have developed shelf- stable iron rich food products into Daliha Teas, Powders, Juices and Spices that can be included in an iron rich diet for healthy living and also promote blood health and the immune system. In this era of COVID-19, our products have become the number one choice for many families in Ghana already. Our innovation is unique to the entire Ghanaian community, Africa and the world. In 2018, we were named as one of the Top 100 Startups in the world by Startup Turkey in Istanbul. In 2019, we got selected as one of the Top 15 Startups in Ghana by Orange Corners and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. We are on a mission to save lives with organic foods from indigenous crops that promote blood health and a strong immune system.
