FarmerTribe is a social enterprise that provides timely access to agricultural inputs, training, extension service and market to smallholder farmers in last mile communities of Northern Ghana. FarmerTribe works with agriculture input manufactures and importers to distribute seeds, fertilizer, crop protection products and farm equipment and earn a distribution commission. We also train farmers on good agronomic practices, technical support during production, and access to market after harvesting. This will increase the yields and income of smallholder farmers and improve their livelihood. At FarmerTribe, we are empowering farmers to prosperity by providing them with the needed resources, training, and service to enable them to be efficient and effective in their production. FarmerTribe’s target impacts are in line with SDGs 1,2,5 and 8. Currently FarmerTribe works with 7002 farmers in 66 last mile communities in 4 districts in the Upper East and North East Region of Ghana, who have increased their yields by 30% earning them additional US$60 -USD$120 per season. To ensure environmental, food and safety of our “Tribe Members” FarmerTribe expect to train over 8000 smallholder farmers on the modern safe agro-chemical handling, trained 41 youth as SSSPs and equipped them with Personal Protective Equipment to provide safe application and spraying of crop protection chemical, we are also working with Crop Protection Products manufactures to start “The Container Swap Initiative” so farmers do not reuse containers or sacks of crop protection chemicals and fertilizers, this will also stop the indiscriminate disposal of these bottles by some farmers. Also we ensure all products are distribute are approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Plant Protection Regulation Safety department (PPRSD) and the Food and drugs Authorities (FDA) and have been used on our demonstration farmer to ensure its effectiveness before distribution to our farmers.
